Wet Cardboard Poppies - Elizabeth Craft Designs

Hi and welcome! I'm so glad you're here!

I had sooo much fun creating these wet cardboard poppies for my husband's 85th birthday card. Liz Gaze and Els Van de Burgt designed the poppies but it was Els who posted a video and showed us how to make them from wet cardboard. As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to try making them and now I'm obsessed. At my advanced age lol, I still love learning new techniques. I think it's what keeps me young! 🤣🤣🤣

See Els' video here. Her card is absolutey GORGEOUS!!!

Here is my simple creation using the wet cardboard Poppies. I love how it turned out.

Create a 5 x 7" black card base. Cut a 4 3/4 x 6 3/4" cork layer and ink the edges. Then cut a 4 1/2 x 6 1/2" designer paper layer (I used Devid's Background Volume 4 for mine.), ink the edges, adhere the two layers together and adhere to the card front. Diecut Lace All Over from black cardstock and adhere to the middle of the card front. Tear a piece of corrugated cardboard, ink the edges and adhere as shown.
Soak a cardboard box in water and remove the top layer when wet. Take a large piece and wrinkle up, generousy spray with Distress Spritz - Vintage Photo and randomly brush with metallic gold paint. When dry, cut a piece and flatten out a bit by placing between the plates and running through the die cutting machine. Take another piece of the wet cardboard (do not wrinkle), spray with Bundled Sage and Salvaged Patina Distress Spritz. Diecut flowers and buds from the Vintage Photo piece and the leaves from the Sage and Patina piece. Cut the stamens from the vintage photo, color the stems with black magic marker and the tips with gold paint. Create the flowers, add the stamens and gold beads to the centers.
Create a pretty arrangement on the front and adhere with hot glue. Diecut Happy Birthday from the vintage photo cardboard and the background from black cardstock. Adhere together and adhere to the card front top left and bottom right using dimensional dots. Diecut numbers from black and adhere as shown.
Cut Kraft cardstock 4 3/4 x 6 3/4", designer cardstock 4 1/2 x 6 1/2", ink the edges, adhere together and adhere to the inside. Cut white cardstock 4 x 6", ink the edges, add personal message and adhere to the inside to complete the card.
